Venifica; Another Garden Theme
'Bobbe Myseh' Booth
INSTALLATION
The Venifica 'Bobbe-Myseh' s booth’s name is derived from Hebrew & Yiddish expression for old wives tales. The installation booth comprises red and green apples displayed in alternate colouring to spell the word S-C-H-M-U-C-K (a Yiddish expression describing male genitalia, a German word for jewellery and by extension an insult). The apples are not for sale. Rather the commodity of exchange is that of story telling; stories retold by the vendor from her clients.
Performance
While listening to the story, the performing vendor takes notes, categorizing each story and recording it using a stamp engraved with Yiddish expressions such as SCHMUCK, MENTSH, SCHMENDRICK, OI VAI, NEDNIK, PISHER, K'VETCH, MESHUGGANER, FARMISHT, SCVONTZ, etc. (exaggerated, crazy, funny, touching, inspiring stories, etc.). She then tears the page from her register and hands the stamped notes as a receipt to her "client" while keeping a carbon copy of the page to remember, archive, and share the story with the next "client-spectator" .
