Marigold Round

Installation

This installation intertwines marigold flowers, ashes, an oil painting, and handwritten text to explore the cycles of life and death. Bound bunches of fresh marigold flowers intersect over a rectangle of loose ashes on the floor, symbolizing the transient nature of being. Leaning against the wall, an oil painting depicts the vibrant marigolds, while a square shape painted on the wall features yellow pigment extracted from the flowers. Within this square, a spiral-shaped text, handwritten with ashes, bearing the words "round and round the marigold round…," evoke the rhythm and melody of a beloved children's song. Through these elements, the installation invites contemplation on the ever-recurring patterns of life's journey, where beginnings and endings converge in an eternal dance.

On the opposing wall is an ash imprint in the form of an angel created by the artist’s body following a performance.

Throughout the exhibition the flowers dry out and the ash angel (applied with the humidity of water) slowly gravitates to piles of dust on the floor.

  • This installation is also a tribute 'departure' from the artist’s former painting practice
