Melusine
Installation Performance
A cross between an autobiography and a fiction, the artist portrays a contemporary and urban rendition of an escort persona based on the mythological character Melusine. Like most sirens, notorious for their mysterious irresistible allure and uncanny capacity to seduce men through song, the artist offers an alternative fictional zone for potential female empowerment and desire lulling spectators with pop songs while recounting stories aloud from her intimate journal.
Performance Synopsis Duration approx. 30 min..
Throughout the performance, the atmosphere shifts between a nightclub, created by the reflections of a multi-coloured disco ball, and a boudoir with a rotating platform supporting a couch on which the artist reclines. This platform spins, operated by the sheer strength of a team of men. Holding a video camera, the artist films from her spinning perspective. This dizzying image is projected in real-time on the walls. The team changes direction as they fatigue. Eventually incapacitated, some men crumble to the floor and ever so humbly and endearingly halt at the artist’s mercy
